We start our trip at the Assateague Information Center just on the right before you go over the bridge. Then we will bike to the top of the bridge on the bike path. Be sure to stop on the top and take in the 360 degree view! It is one of the few hill climbs on the Eastern Shore and the views are remarkable. Enjoy the rush downhill and then turn right just before you go into the State Park.
We are headed into the National Park. On this stretch we often see our first ponies before we enter the Park. Once into the park, we will head back to bayside. We will take one of the right turns to view the bayside campground. (If you pick the right site, you can camp overlooking the bay and if you have a kayak, you can paddle right from your camp site.) When you get to the end of the road, there are picnic tables, grills, a kayak & canoe outfitter and the bay.
Take some time and wade out and perhaps find clams with your toes. We head back to the main drive, pick up the bike trail and cut left into the ocean side. You’ll see the ocean side campgrounds on your left. At the end of the bike path there is a turn around. Before you head back, you can take an inland nature walk and enjoy some time on the beach!
